Mobility action

Short-term Visits to NFFA-Europe facilities

PhD students, post-doctoral and young researchers, as well as engineers and technicians, from both academia and industry will be allowed to spend a week on a laboratory of the NFFA-Europe Consortium to gain hands-on experience of advanced services for nanoscience and nanotechnology.

1. OBJECTIVES

The mobility programme aims to provide young researchers, as well as engineers and technicians, the chance to get a hands-on experience on nanotechnology techniques as well as fine analysis methods available at the NFFA-Europe consortium. This specific training will be used as a seed for future trans-national access applications.  Being a member of the NFFA-Europe consortium is not a requirement.

Specifically this action promotes short-term visits to NFFA-Europe facilities organised as practical laboratory stays to gain hands-on experience of advanced services for nanoscience and nanotechnology.

The duration of the stay is limited to a week. The programme will assure a fixed budget in order to support the travel and accommodation expenses.

2. IMPLEMENTATION TOOLS

Several open-calls along the NFFA-Europe project duration will be made through the NFFA-Europe web-site, where a list of possible host institutions, preliminary selected by a Short-term-visit Executive Committee, will be published.

First open-call started 15th August 2017 (closed)

Second open-call starting 16th April 2018 (closed)

Third open-call starting 12th April 2019

The candidate will be in charge of finding the specific laboratory in which the short-visit will be made. To submit a proposal the approval of the receiving laboratory is mandatory.

If there is a technique not available in the call, the candidate can contact directly with p.nffa.ee@uab.cat to try to find an available hosting laboratory inside the NFFA-Europe consortium.

3. BENEFICIARIES

This mobility programme aims to provide the opportunity to PhD students, post-doctoral and young researchers, as well as engineers and technicians, from both academia and industry, to spend a week on a laboratory of the NFFA-Europe Consortium. Being a member of the NFFA-Europe consortium is not a requirement.

During the different calls, preference will be given to PhD students, post-docs, young researchers and finally engineers and technicians. Additionally preference will be given to those who have not been previously financed.

4. SELECTION CRITERIA

The beneficiaries will be selected based on the required documentation according to quality and excellence of Curriculum Vitae of the candidate, appropriate work plan and feasibility of the proposal as well as Expected Impact on Applicant Career Development.

The candidates will be evaluated considering the following criteria:

  1. Benefits and adequacy of the short-term stay to the development of the candidate’s research
  2. Adequacy and coherence of  the host laboratory
  3. CV of the candidate considering the number of years doing research  (in order to prioritise the programme upon younger researchers)

The selection responsibility will be made by a Scientific committee (SC), composed of three members, nominated from the NFFA-Europe consortium, belonging to different partners of the consortium. Additionally to this SC committee, there is an Executive Committee (EC) in charge of the management of the proposals (establish calls, generates list of proposals for scientific evaluation, management of travel support, post-evaluation of the short-visits).

Short Term Visit Executive Committee members: Arantxa Uranga, PRUAB-UAB; Ennio Capria, ESRF; Riccardo Brancaleon, Promoscience

Short Term Visit Scientific Committee members: Núria Barniol, PRUAB-UAB; Jose Santiso, ICN2; Narciso Gambacorti, CEA-LETI

5. ELIGIBLE EXPENSES

  1.      Travel: Up to 400 € (from working place to hosting lab, plane/train tickets)
  2.      Accommodation and maintenance support: 70 € per day (maximum of 5 working days)

6. PAYMENTS

Accommodation and flights/train tickets will be acquired directly by UAB. For the validation of the economic support a letter of certification from the hosting laboratory as well as plane/train tickets will be mandatory.

7. TIMELINE

The proposals will be evaluated on a regular basis, in one-month upon received. The candidate will confirm acceptance in one week.

The short-stage visit can be done any time in accordance with the hosting laboratory (in the proposal the expected dates for the short-time visit must be defined)..

9. EVALUATION PROCEDURE

The Executive Committee makes a formal check of proposals upon received. The checked proposals are then send to Scientific Committee for scientifically evaluation

The evaluation by the Scientific Committee will be based on the evaluation criteria stated in section 4.

After the scientific-technical evaluation the proposals come back to the Executive Committee that approves definitely the proposal according to the available budget.

10. MONITORING AND REPORTING

Once the stay has been completed, the beneficiary will send a 1 page report, indicating the exact dates, a summary of the work done, highlighting the experience benefits, and with the signature of the responsible person of the stay from the host research centre.

If any scientific result is generated during the stay, the beneficiary will acknowledge both, the NFFA-Europe project and the host lab.
